Proposal
Remove the top 1/3 of thatch between the two chimneys to expose the remains of the timber structure to upper purlin level, re-construct timber roof structure with substantial c16 timbers with collars and then batten, pack out the timbers using the old recycled thatch to create a level and then re-thatch middle upper section to the same level as the existing thatch line. Inspect the rest of the thatch and giving it a clean. Ridge across the cottage front and back to be replaced with turnover style flush ridge with hazel pattern work.
