Subject: FAO Andrew Lewis - Bishop Blaize Ref: 09/01557/F

Dear Mr Lewis

Re: Application 09/01557/F 'BISHOPS BLAIZE'

I am writing to object to the latest planning application concerning the Bishop Blaize public house. The proposed change of use to a private dwelling is yet another attempt by the owner to profit from property speculation and thus permanently deprive the local population of a much-loved village pub.

I am sure that you cannot be unaware that the pub was a very popular going concern until the acquisition by the current owners, who then proceeded quite cynically to run down the business before applying for permission for change of use. Their intention from the outset was clearly to make a quick profit from developing the land which enjoys beautiful views from Burdrop village. The application was quite rightly refused and I see no reason why circumstances have changed in this case.

Although we are only relatively new arrivals to Sibford Gower (2007) we have felt the absence of an old-fashioned village pub in these parts very keenly. The Wykham Arms is a very good gastro-pub/restaurant but we feel that the three villages of Sibford Gower, Burdrop, Sibford Ferris could easily support another public house. All the locals have spoken with much affection for the old Bishops Blaize pub and there is no doubt that the business would be viable and popular.

I therefore see no good reason why this application for change of use should be accepted
.

Yours sincerely

Andrew and Brigette Boyd
