Comments: Dear Sir, Planning Application ref: 09/01557/F We are the owners of Barn Close, Burdrop, the property adjacent to Bishop's End (formerly the Bishop Blaize Inn). Our property is the property most affected by the current application for change of use. We support the application for change of use to a residential dwelling (provided that any redevelopment is sympathetic to the original building). We support the application because: 1. We do not believe that the Sibfords can support two viable pubs. The Wykham Arms in Sibford Gower is an excellent pub which deserves all the help it can get from the local community. Whilst as countrysiders by origin (Worcestershire and North Lincolnshire respectively) we regret the demise of a local pub, we note that the current debate has, regrettably, become very personal. We take no particular side in that debate, other than to observe that the personal nature of some comments made is likely to have clouded judgment all round; 2. Change of use to a residential dwelling would allow the property to be occupied by a family which in turn is likely to use the local shop/post office (another type of threatened local amenity), schools, church/Quaker meeting house and pub, all for the benefit of the local community. We would have concerns over any renewed use of Bishop's End as a pub because: 3. It would threaten the viability of the Wykham Arms (see above); 4. There is inadequate parking space for users of the property as a pub. We are aware that this has in the past led to parking along the Street through Burdrop, in particular directly outside Barn Close. In the event that Bishop's End were re-opened as a pub, we would expect double yellow lines to be painted along all or our end of the Street through Burdrop to prevent this problem in future, for safety reasons; 5. We have concerns (supported by our understanding of past usage) about pub users leaving the pub, turning right and driving at speed down the Street through Burdrop. This raises noise and safety issues, in particular for the many children in the vicinity, including ours. In the event that Bishop's End were re-opened as a pub, we would expect the Street through Burdrop to become a one-way street with a No Entry sign at Barn Close or Carrier's Cottage, so that exiting traffic would be required to drive out along the Gower/Ferris road and/or along Hawkes Lane, again principally for safety reasons. We note that the issues set out in Paragraphs 4 and 5 above affect only those residents who live on or adjacent to the Street through Burdrop and we would therefore not expect comments from more distant local residents to carry any weight on those two issues. Yours faithfully, Nicholas Peacock and Sarah Haden PublicAccess for Planning. (c) CAPS Solutions Ltd.
