Subject: Planning Application - 09/01557/F - The Bishops Blaze

Dear Sirs

Bishops Blaze Planning Application

I strongly object to the proposed change of use for the Bishops Blaze pub in Sibford Ferris. It would be an absolute travesty for the surrounding area, villagers and friends and family to permeably lose this centrally located hive of community life.

I lived opposite to the pub until I was 26 years old. I have always been a ‘regular’ of the Bishops. The pub has always attracted a real mix of people not just the locals or certain classes, in doing so it has brought diversity to the area and been an inspiration for the younger generations. It is the place where everyone comes together despite there social background or job title.

I can not stress enough the importance of the Bishops to Sibford, the: history, custom, character, elegance, spirit, views, employment, support, and of course the passion, come to mind but words can not fully import the value of the Bishops to society.

The last time I visited the pub it was in the ownership of the applicants. It was not a pleasant experience the pub was dirty, empty glasses were not cleared from tables from the night before, the beer was bad, prices were extortionate and the landlord was extremely rude. There is no doubt in my mind that the applicants had no intention of ever running the Bishops as a village pub.

Typical British pubs are becoming such a rarity and I feel it is important to preserve all that they bring to a society. It is difficult to see how this can happen without the preservation of establishments such as the Bishops.

As I am sure you are aware by the responses that you have received to this application the Bishops Blaze is sorely missed. For a business to pull a committee together in this way (the evidence of which is in the 100 plus responses) it must be treasured.

It would be ludicrous for the Council to allow the application, as I am sure you will agree, but in the unfortunate event that the application goes in the favour of the applicants, rest assured the matter will be appealed.

Yours faithfully

Jess Fletcher
