I would like to give my opinion on the Gallagher proposal of building 500 new homes on Gavray Drive, Langford Village. Whilst I appreciate that new homes are always on the most wanted list, I am very concerned with regard to the land that is to be built on. As you may know during the extreme wet conditions this land does flood quite badly, and not surprising you can see plant growth that supports damp conditions, not of course excluding the number of frogs that habit this area. With the current concerns from Insurance Companies with regard building on flood plains, I really think that someone somewhere should consider this matter. When you have natural ditches and streams to divert them is not always the answer. Since moving into Langford in 1991, the traffic has increase somewhat and trying to get out of Peregrine Way (the non-roundabout junction) can be pretty difficult during rush hour, and the best way to avoid this is to go around the estate via the roundabout. Of course this means driving by the school which as I am sure you are aware is an absolute nightmare during drop-off and pick-up. If you propose and allow 500 more houses to be built on this land, you can assume at least 500 more cars will be living there too. Assuming that some households will have up to 2 to 3 cars. Therefore this will mean traffic increase along the main Launton road will be much much heavier, and something will then will have to be done about the Peregrine Way Junction. I sympathize with the Council having to make a decision on Gavray Road, but to me Cherwell must think of the Environment issues as well, and in particularly the issue of Global Warming. I have grandchildren and I am sure some of the councillors have them too, and for me it is about time we start thinking of what we are going to leave these children in the future.
